MIKE McFARLANE OBE

It is with deep sadness that Mike Mcfarlane, an incredible sprinter and a brilliant and respected coach has passed away … we send our sincere sympathy and love to his Family for their very sad loss.

Mike has given so much to so many in this sport on and off the track. His incredible achievements as a sprinter were an inspiration to many across the World. His dedication, determination and remarkable talent took him to the pinnacle of athletic success … his legacy as a sprinter and coach will continue to motivate aspiring athletes for generations to come.

Mike McFarlane was an iconic sprinter over 100m & 200m – He won an Olympic Silver medal in the 4x100m for Great Britain in South Korea in 1988.

At the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia – Mike won Gold for England in the 200m – in an epic race against the reigning 100m Olympic champion Alan Wells – both men clocked the same time 20.43, the officials were unable to separate them on the photo finish … and both were awarded the Gold.

In 1986 he won two further sprint medals at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh … the list of his achievements is huge, indoors and outdoors.

“Mac” as he was affectionately known was a superbly-gifted coach who worked very hard coaching many to become World class athletes – his passion for nurturing young talents to achieve their dreams and sharing his knowledge and experience to others made him a Class Act in Athletics coaching …

Mike gave his all to this sport but always made time to say “Hello” with that warm smile …

He will be greatly missed by us all.
