SHAUN PICKERING

It is with great sadness to report the passing away of former Enfield & Haringey top athlete Shaun Pickering – Shaun won shot put bronze for Wales in the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur and competed in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta – he was a multiple Welsh Champion and record holder.

He later became a National event coach for Heavy throws. Shaun gave so much to the Sport and will be sadly missed. He was the son of the late Ron Pickering (OBE) and Jean Pickering (MBE). Ron was a brilliant BBC commentator and Presenter, who also coached Lynn Davies to Long Jump gold at the Rome Olympics in 1960. Jean represented GB at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and won Long Jump gold in the 1953 European Championships.

Ron and Jean throughout their lives made massive contributions to the Sport of Athletics helping so many right across the board.

Shaun and his sister Kim have worked tirelessly to ensure Mum & Dad’s charitable legacy continues – helping the next generation to “follow their dreams”. Shaun will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with Shaun’s family at this very sad time.
